2 Birds With 1 Stone

So, you get 2 outfits today! Hooray! Aren't you so excited? I know I am. I'm trying to do some catch up here. The first outfit I just tried on for something different, not sure if I will wear it at all. The second outfit scared me a little too. I put on my chambray shirt instead of a cardigan... dun dun duhhhhh. I know, I know. I am such a fashion rebel. It was snowing pretty hard yesterday so I didn't end up wearing either of these. I changed into jeans and wore them with the purple shirt and my black cardigan. Then, I made chocolate chip cookies and ate about 1/2 the dough and 3 (or 5) cookies. I watched a lot of Castle and Fringe so all in all, very productive :)

Hope you all had a good weekend! Oh, and today is the debut of the 30th item... my new shoes!! Shawn got them for me for Valentines and I love them. I have been looking at lace up oxfords forever and couldn't find a reasonable pair. These were on sale (score!) because apparently all people are now interested in sandals. We are all wearing sandals up here in MN. Because who doesn't wear sandals with our recent 15 inches of snow? I'm sure these will be worn about 50 million more times on this blog so for now all you get is a crappy picture of them. But don't fret. :)

The Eleventh Hour

I feel like I am really falling behind on this 30 for 30 thing. Part of the problem has been the weather. I know, standard complaint right? However, when you get about 15 inches of snow in a day, let me know if you feel like taking outfit pictures. Well, I didn't :) I sat around, watched Downton Abbey (the entire mini series). That's like 7 and 1/2 hours of dedication people. So before I get to my (in my mind) boring outfit, I want to share a little outfit inspiration. These costumes were amazing people!
I will find a dress similar to each of these to wear. Plus, those hats! I die.

Lady Sybil was my favorite character but Lady Mary had some of my fav outfits.

Part of what I liked about the show is the characters re-wore a lot of the items. Just like someone (even people with money) would have back then. It made it seem a lot more real.

I will for sure do an tribute outfit once I find something as lovely as some of these. Alright. Now it's time for what I wore. I took these right after work so my hair isn't the loveliest.

Just ignore the laundry basket, dirty kitchen and what not behind me. This was the only acceptable picture to show you that I was wearing pink tights.

Have a great Wednesday!

I Give it a Ten.

I don't really have anything exciting or funny to talk about today. Other than the fact that the BF and I went out on a date with a couple that we met on the internet. Sounds weird right? Well, the two guys play games and chat online to each other. They decided to meet for dinner so the women folk went with. It was alright but a bit awkward. Not sure if I would do something like that but it was interesting :)

Just got a really exciting email that I will have to share with you guys a bit later!

This is what I wore to work the other day. Everyone is on outfit 18 or 19 so I really need to catch up! This is one of my favorite finds from this post. Now you get to finally see it styled!

Have a great rest of the weekend!

The Whole Nine Yards

Yesterday was a terrible day. My dog got in a huge fight at the dog park and it was like a nightmare coming true. I won't say much more about it but needless to say it was one of the worst things that have ever happened to me.

On to better things. I am going red again! I actually remembered to wear it today. I have had this belt for ages but it is so "old Erin" that I haven't worn it in a long time. I think it goes pretty well with this vintage scarf even though it's a little matchy matchy.

My thumb is still killing me from breaking up a dog fight so I will leave you with just the pictures.

8 the great

Well, only one month to go until one of my favorite holidays, St. Patty's! I love celebrating being Irish and going out on the town with friends. Yes, there are a lot of annoying people out and about and yes places are usually packed. However, everyone is in a spirit of fun and that's what I like. Do you all have a favorite holiday? Mine is Halloween followed closely by Christmas. I think I really like holidays where people really get into the spirit and have a good time.

I traded a dress I wasn't going to to wear for this green cardigan. My 30 for 30 was lacking a bit of color and since this is my first time around, I thought it would be ok to swap an item. I felt very Irish in this outfit with the lace and the green cardigan. I did a jig in front of the mirror even! I should have taken a picture. Oh and these boots aren't in the 30 for 30 but it was so melty today (finally!) that I couldn't go for a walk in anything else. At work I wore my little black flats. This is also the 4th day this week that I have wore 30 for 30 to WORK. Whoa. I know. Joey Lawrence would be proud of all of you. I decided since it was so warm this week to just say F it and wear skirts to work. You're welcome coworkers. :)

About these pictures.... this is a little park connected to a school by my house. I forgot my remote and I was all flustered by my dog barking every 5 seconds because I tied him to a bench. Little jerk. So, you get 3 blurry images. You're welcome.

Guess what came in the mail!

The lovely Chantele of Daisy Maze agreed a month or so ago to be my very first swap buddy. I finally got her package all the way from Wales! I am really excited to style these pieces. They are not something I would pick for myself which makes it more fun. Stay tuned after the 30 for 30 to see these pieces make their way into some outfit posts!

Seven Minutes in Heaven

Hey! Do you like the new header and background? I'm not 100% sure on the clouds but I kind of like them with the balloon header. Anywho. I wore this this weekend and changed out of it. Why? I'm not sure because I really like it. I'm sure I will be wearing this again soon. Other than the white shirt, these are all unseen items! Weeee! Ok settle down, most of my clothes are unseen as this here blog is only about a month or so old. But, I get excited none the less. Also, this weekend was really "warm!" I say warm because it's all relative. 45 on Sunday was a flippin heat wave compared to the -25 is was a the beginning of the week. Oh Minnesota, you tricky bitch. So, I actually went outside! I took pictures! I went to the dog park! Spring is around the corner! Exclamation points!

I was really excited that these balloons from my tea party were still floaty in all their helium filled glory. The girl at the store said they would only guarantee them for 8-10 hours. Take that Party City! These balloons have been in the air for a week and are still going strong. Get ready for picture overload!

Let's Talk About Six Baby

Hey friends (well my imaginary internet friends) how are you?! My photos of outfits have been missing for a bit and my 30 for 30 is severely behind. I swear I have been wearing them but sadly, not photographing. So, Saturday I had a lot of fun attending the Two Birds vintage event I told you about! So here are some pics from their show as a little teaser for the next one. I was trying to be really good and not buy everything too much stuff.

Let's just pretend that these pictures are super crisp, not blurry and that low light photography isn't the bane of my existence. K?

Another plus of going was more people got to see why I have a blog and imaginary friends. The lovely Megan came up to say hi and was all "You're Babes in Thriftland! Thanks for coming!" and I was all like "I've never driven from my house down this particular road before..." Crickets. So, sorry I was weird. I'm actually kind of funny. Hello Socially Awkward Erin. I forgot you were in there. I was shy all through life especially high school, I'm still shy around new people blah blah right? I thought it might help to have you all look at some visuals to compare Fun with Friends Erin and Socially Awkward Erin. Kind of like Barbie but without the dream home, car, Ken and cool clothes.

Let's compare, shall we kittens?

Hey look, I'm so fun in my stolen green cowboy hat! Please don't talk to me. I'm super nervous!

You're turn! Guess who is who!

If you guessed Socially Awkward Erin is on the right then you win! Pride! Isn't that the best prize of all?

On to the outfit I wore! This outfit it me to a T. A little bit girly, a little bit fun and just all Erin.

Goals for this weekend.

I am posting this more as an accountability thing for myself more than anything else. However, feel free to read if you want!

Goals:

1. Start making new jewelry
2. Photograph jewelry already made to update Etsy site.
3. Put together and photograph at least 2 outfits. I need to catch up on this 30 for 30!
4. Attend 2 birds vintage event tomorrow.
5. Figure out what I'm doing wrong/learn how to use new circular knitting needles. I WILL make a cowl if it kills me!
6. Head to the grocery store so I don't keep eating popcorn and cereal for dinner every night.
7. Hit the gym at least once.
8. Beat Mystery Case Files. :)
9. Mend some of the items in my pile.
10. Finish watching the disk of Castle I got so I can get the next one :)

Well, seems like a lot but hopefully I can be super productive and get a lot done. It always makes me feel better. Just in case you were wondering, we are going to be having a heatwave this weekend! 40 on Sunday!! I figured out today though that 32 is still 32 even though it is 50 degrees warmer than a couple of days ago.

FBFF and Favorite Finds Friday!

This skirt and a funny (and sad) story attached to it. So, this skirt was really long but I saw it's potential and hemmed it. I am really terrible at hemming because I always misjudge how long it should be. So, this skirt turned out pretty short. Not a problem, I thought. Then, I was trying to trim the hem with my pinking shears because it was fraying. I ended up cutting little triangle sized chunks out of it. :( So, what did you do then you ask? What any smart person would do. I cut pieces of the extra fabric and double sided taped them to the holes. Problem solved :)

Winter 2010 050_edited-1

Now onto the questions!
1. What color dominates your closet? Well, my favorite color is green but when I looked in my closet I noticed there wasn't a ton of green in there. Huh. I think the majority of stuff is in the blue family from navy to teal to aqua.
2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet? I love color so I would try to get a bunch of saturated colors in a wide range. I am recently being drawn to more pastels and muted colors too. I think with my skin tone, I've always been afraid of muted colors and pastels. But, I want to find some really pretty dresses and tops this spring to fill that void.
3. What is your mantra about mixing colors? I say (almost) anything goes. My only rules are no navy and black together unless you want to look like a bruise. I used to think brown and black was a no no but I just started wearing them together and I really like it. I think as long as I stay in the tan family and not chocolate browns it works nicely. I'm not really a fan of "holiday" colors together. Like green and red or pink and red. Makes me feel too theme-y.
4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits? I love color so for me it isn't really an issue. I usually pick one color that I'm in the mood to wear and then go from there. Like if I want to wear green, I will pick complimenting colors that go well with it. I am not super skilled at unique color matching which I want to get better at.
5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe? Well, most bloggers are better than me but 2 that stick out in my mind as of right now are Kendi and Kristine. Or Polly. Kendi always mixes colors I would never think of and might be scared to try. Kristine always looks so cheery and fun and does an awesome job of mixing colors and patterns in a way that is unique.

FBFF is brought to you by Katy over at Modly Chic. A bunch of FBFFers got free tights to style this week from We Love Colors so go check them out!

Tea Party

So, you get to hear some of my excuses as to why I haven't posted an outfit it a while. Well, today it was about -25 and I didn't feel like taking pictures. The end. :)

I threw a tea party this past weekend and I thought I would share a couple of pictures. I took some pictures while I was making cupcakes so I may post the recipe and walkthrough sometime.teacups
My collection of thrifted tea cups. None more that 4 bucks!

tea party spread
Here is the whole spread. I made scones, shortbread cookies, mini quiche, cupcakes and a fruit salad. My cousin brought the mini cupcakes and my friend Vaida from book club brought the chocolate covered strawberries. It was a really nice day and I want to do it again soon!

I had to post the one picture I took.
This is my friend Shannon and my cousin/friend Sarah. They are flippin' hilarious and I love them. Here they are being haughty thugs.

Calling All Minnesotans!

Hi all!

This may be boring filler for some of you but I wanted to let other MN people know about something cool coming up. I saw this even posted in January and since then have been following the lovely Two Birds on their blog.

So, the event will be hosted at Salon Stella over in my hood, NE Minneapolis. You can get some great vintage items and get your hair done. Neat right?

February 12 (Friday): 10:00 – 6:00
February 13 (Saturday): 12:00 – 5:00

I will for sure be there sometime on Saturday to check out this great event! If you want to know more check this out. If you aren't a MN just go check out the their etsy and blog!

High Five and EBEW

Another day, another number named post. Today is also Blazer day! I put this blazer in my 30 for 30 because of the challenge but I have to admit, I've never worn one for "fun" before. I've only ever worn it as part of a suit. So, I tried to make it more me by pairing it with my grey jeans and plaid top. I think it turned out alright. If you want to learn more about Everybody, Everywhere then check out their site. Even if you don't want to participate, it is really fun to see how everyone styles the "same" item.

Something else you might have noticed is that I'm OUTSIDE. I know. I was freezing my bleep off and the dog wouldn't stop barking and I locked myself out. But, I got outside pictures! The dog and the cold is probably why I have the weirdest facial expressions of all time. No time to check the camera to see how my face looked. Alls well that ends well though right?

4th and Goal

No, I did not watch the superbowl. Yes, I like football but only college really (Go Buffs!).

Now that we have that out of the way, on to the outfit! I was having a handful of friends over for a tea party on Saturday and this is what I wore before the party to run erinds. Get it? I was running errands and my name is Erin. Oh nevermind. It's really cute when Kendi does it but I can't pull it off.

So this outfit was pretty much created around the ribbon belt. I knew I wanted to wear the blue skirt with the purple shirt. Then I saw this belt and knew that the tights would go really well with everything. Kind of peacock colors. Have a great week!!
